큐티보이 (Cutie Boy #1)
by Mi-Ri Hwang
Lee Han-Ah used to be bullied in 2nd grade for having a “wide and flat” butt by a boy in her elementary school and has hated him ever since. Now, in high school she is the celebrated, legendary captain of Il-Hwa Girls High School and she is seeking out a pretty boyfriend. Then she meets the mellow and seemingly perfect boy, Yoo-Min, that seems to know her and wants to date her.Summary from Goodreads.
This manwha is a laugh out loud story about a girl who was bullied without mercy in elementary school. Ahem just so we’re clear the part about her getting bullied isn’t the funny part. But moving on. Who did she get bullied by you ask? Well by a boy who thought it would be hilarious to make fun of her figure, even though she is tall and skinny. But he didn’t stop there he also wouldn’t let anyone play with her how mean is that. But now years later in high school, she is a shy but spirited, and her evil mean friends easily manipulate her. Which is quite sad in a way. Not to mention that she’s also desperate for a boyfriend. Well it looks like her luck is looking up. Because she just happens to run into sexy man who seems to be as in love with her as she is with him. He’s hot and not violent so she thinks anyway. Man is she in for the shock of her life when she finds out that…
He is supposedly the psychotic gang-leader of a local boy’s school and has been obsessed with her for years. Sound a little stalkerish? Yes very much so indeed. I loved it, but I’m not sure how someone who isn’t really familiar with the jjang scene would like it. You see a lot of the jjiang in manwha, you know each high school has a jjiang or you could say captain who is in charge of the other delinquents. Why is he in charge you ask? Well it’s because of his fighting skills and his ability to get away with anything plus teachers don’t really want to mess with a guy like him. It makes for a really awesome story, but maybe it would be lame to some first time readers. I don’t know if you happen to read it let me know what you thought.
So anyway moving on this story really reminded me of Hana Yori Dango. The hero was very similar to Tsukasa, violent, really extremely very easily manipulated, very almost scary obsessed with the heroine, and can I just say denial to the max about his feelings and so on. I was a little disappointed how every with some of the events. The events in this manwha weren’t as extreme like some other work of Mi-Ri’s. The Villain was pretty evil, but a real wimp compared to her other evil characters from her other works. But what disappointed me the most I guess you could say was the villain’s punishment. There was not really that much punishment. Which was kind of sad because usually all her villains, bad guys whatever you want to call them REALLY get what’s coming to them. But aside from that I really liked this manwha it was funny and the story was awesome so I say you should give it a shot.
